All Porcelain Dental Crowns
If you have a damaged, fractured, or decaying tooth, your dentist may recommend the use of a porcelain dental crown. The advantage of crowns over other restorative dental solutions lies in the fact that they are larger and can cover more of the tooth. Because a crown is essentially a tooth-shaped cap that fits over the existing tooth, it can restore the shape and functionality of the full tooth, as opposed to a filling, which only repairs a small area.
In addition to covering a damaged tooth, a crown may be put in place to seal a damaged filling or used in place of a filling if the area affected by decay is too large. Crowns can also be an excellent solution if you have a tooth that you’d simply like to improve for cosmetic reasons.
If you and your dentist determine that a durable, luminous, all-porcelain crown is the best choice for you, the subsequent treatment will consist of two appointments. During the first, your dentist will take an accurate mold of the tooth that will be receiving the crown, and a temporary crown will be created. Approximately two weeks later, you will return to the office, where your natural tooth will be thoroughly cleaned, and your new crown will be secured into place.
