Treating Cracked and Chipped Teeth

Posted on: October 20th, 2021 | Posted by | Posted in Uncategorized

Cracked a Tooth?

Cracking or chipping your tooth can be extremely painful. While a chipped or cracked tooth may cause issues with chewing, biting, and eating, it can also cause further harm to your other teeth.

What Happens?

A cracked tooth can cause harm to the root of the tooth and can sometimes lead to infection. Endodontic treatment is the best option if you have a cracked tooth. An Endodontist or dentist can perform a procedure to save the tooth. If you suspect (or know!) that your tooth is cracked, visit your dentist right away before the crack worsens or causes further damage to other parts of your tooth.

Options

If you have a chipped tooth your dentist will likely proceed with one of two treatment options: a dental filling or dental bonding.

Filling

You’ll likely receive a filling if you chip a small piece of a tooth, or end up chipping an unnoticeable tooth in the back of your mouth. Superficial or unnoticeable chipping is important to get examined, but can repaired with a simple filling procedure.

Bonding

If you chip a front tooth or a large portion of a tooth, your dentist will likely opt for a procedure called bonding. Bonding resin is a tooth-colored cement puddy that can be shaped and applied to the tooth to make it look like nothing ever happened!

The most important thing to do is call us as soon as you crack or chip your tooth so we can help as soon as possible!
