Bridges vs. Implants

Posted on: November 3rd, 2021 | Posted by | Posted in Uncategorized

If you are missing several teeth, you know how difficult it can be. Missing teeth can cause problems with speech, chewing, and in more serious cases, even the overall shape of the face. While these challenges may seem difficult and impossible to fix, there are things that can be done to restore your smile and your teeth’s functionality. Two of the most popular solutions for missing teeth are dental bridges and dental implants.

Dental bridges are exactly what they sound like: they bridge the gap between teeth to fill in a spot where one or more teeth may be missing. They work by attaching a false tooth which will fill the gap to the adjacent natural teeth around it. Dental bridges can either be fixed, meaning they can only be removed by a dentist, or removable, meaning they’re more like dentures and can be taken out at night or for cleaning. Dental bridges tend to be slightly more affordable than implants, and are less invasive to install.

Dental implants require a minor surgery to install and are a permanent solution for missing teeth. A titanium screw is attached to the jawbone, and a dental crown caps the screw so it matches the adjacent teeth. Because of the strength and durability of the titanium, implants create a longer-lasting solution for missing teeth.

To determine which solution is best for you, the best option is always to consult your dentist. You’ll be enjoying your new smile in no time!
